Kempty Falls in Mussoorie
Located on the Mussoorie-Dehradun Road, Kempty Falls is one of the most preferred picnic spot and entertainment zone in Mussoorie. Located at a distance of only 15 km from the heart of Mussoorie, it is based at an elevation of 4500 feet with the principal attraction of 40-feet-tall waterfall before a spectacular scenic backdrop of natural extravaganza. It was the alluring beauty of this place which motivated and persuaded the British official John Mekinan to develop the area and make it more apt for “visiting friends” in 1835. The name Kempty was actually given by the British officers, during that era, culminating the thought of “camp” and “tea” since it was the wish of British leaders to organize tea party in this area amidst natural beauty.It may be noted that Kempty Falls is one of the largest waterfalls present in Mussoorie and it provides the opportunity of bathing, fishing and do other water sports in the fresh waters of the fall. Climbing a few steps down is the beautiful pond amidst lush greenery, which is an exotic location with unmatched beauty. The place has huge entertainment options and a perfect place for family and friends to get together and enjoy fun-filled time. There are several shops on the way to Kempty Falls which provide swimming costumes for both males and females on rent which make it more convenient. The place, however, remains open only during the months of March to July due to safety reasons.
Lake Mist

At a distance of 5km from the famous Kempty Falls of Mussoorie, lies another newl-developed picnic spot around the beautiful lake, called Lake Mist. Facilitated by the water of the Kempty falls, Lake Mist is a beautiful pond amidst natural serene beauty and lush greenery. There is enough facility for food and accommodation here which is a great advantage. One can take a bath in the pond or go for boating with the availability of paddle boats and enjoy the peaceful relaxing ambience at its most. However, entering Lake Mist is chargeable as one need to pay around Rs 100 per adult to enjoy quality time here.
Being at a distance of 10 km from Mussoorie, one can take local transport or private cab to reach the destination. It is true that the maintenance of Lake Mist is not the best and it ruins some part of enjoyment but the place itself is very much appealing.
Mussoorie Lake

Mussoorie Lake is yet another beautiful picnic spot, newly constructed, at a distance of 6 km from the heartland of Mussoorie. Based on Mussoorie Dehradun Road, this location provides enchanting views and a picturesque tableau of the people and their lifestyle. The glowing sunrays on the Doon Valley and the stunning Mussoorie Hill Resort add up to enrich the beauty by many folds. There is option of boating at Mussoorie Lake which is equally thrilling. It is one of the best picnic spot in Mussoorie both families as well as for couples. Though being an artificial lake constructed by the Dehdradun Mussoorie Development authorities, this is considered as the best among all lakes in the hill station. It attracts the maximum crowd almost throughout the year.
Mussoorie Lake remains open seven days a week throughout the year and there are charges levied for entry in this lake. The location of Mussoorie Lake is very close to Dhobi Ghat since from there it is a walking distance of 2-3 minutes.
Municipal Garden in Mussoorie
Located in Happy Valley, Municipal Garden in Mussoorie is another charismatic location which remains popular for day tours or as picnic spots. This is one of the preferred locations of the natives as well as tourists, especially for its well organized and well maintained envioronment which takes care of every preference of the visitors in terms of natural beauty, entertainment options, relaxation, calmness, cleanliness and peacefulness.
Previously named as the “Company Bagh”, this garden is a portfolio of verdant greenery and lush foliage that makes a beautiful landscape of nature’s excellence. For entertainment there are options of various rides for kids, boating for both adults and kids, a stunning fountain to enjoy, a mini lake and the pretty new entry is a nursery full of multiple varieties of flowers with admirable fragrances. Adorned with several deodar and bamboo trees, this place is full on entertainment for people of all ages. There are several souvenir shops for the tourist to take some memory back home or gift someone. Apart from this there is a neat and clean food court which serves versatile kinds of food at quite cheap rates.
The place is a family retreat and it can be easily reached from any point of Mussoorie. The ideal location of Municipal garden is on the Waverly Convent Road from where one can walk or take a ride of cycle rickshaw to the picnic spot. Entry fee for this location is Rs 18 per adult whereas boating charges are separate.
Jharipani Falls

Travelling to Jharipani Falls is not a difficult task. One has to first travel to Jharipani village through motorable roads with the help of private taxis and from Jharipani one needs to trek for about 1.5kms to reach the Waterfalls.
Bhatta Falls in Mussoorie

Bhatta Falls can be reached easily from Mussoorie town with the help of local buses or auto rickshaws available around the main road.
Park Estate
A beautiful estate named after the First Surveyor General of India, Sir George Everest, the Park estate is located at the Hathipaon Road of Mussoorie. Sir George Everest, after whose name the highest peak of the world was christened, held the office of Surveyor General from 1830 to 1843 and in between he built this place which had his bungalow and a laboratory which is present till date.The remnants of the estate provide a glimpse of the yesteryears and the living style of the famous personality. The antique collections, the wooden beams and the rusted designed fire place are all examples of the lifestyle then. The main attraction of this place, other than the estate is the majestic scenic excellence with the aid of Aglar River Valley, Doon Valley and the obvious gigantic white cloaked Himalayan ranges. Park estate can be easily reached from the Gandhi Chowk point of Library Bazaar in Mussoorie since from there it is only 6 kms away. Any local transport can provide a ride to the location. However, it may be noted that the roads beyond Hathipaon Road is quite rough and broken but the same can be walked down in a few minutes' time
